Interdisciplinary Designer/Engineer/Artist Seeks Employment
Spending the last two years developing an interdisciplinary approach to art and engineering, I am excited to join a company that matches my passion and commitment to cultural and technological innovation.
I hope to contribute my diverse skills in web development, engineering design and critical thinking to create meaningful interaction experiences within a team of similarly motivated individuals.
My practice spans a breadth of fields including: electrical design and fabrication, product fabrication, 3D computer modeling, information visualization and web development (database design, graphic design, and PHP/HTML/CSS implementation). These diverse skills are supported by an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, extensive undergraduate study of Industrial Design, a graduate degree in Engineering from an interdisciplinary Arts-Computation-Engineering program and 9 years of web development. Simply put, I consider my work to be “aesthetic problem solving”, asking questions and developing solutions that work beautifully.
My current interests are within the emerging field of Interaction Design, focusing on the interaction of people, networked information and rich materiality—a notion I describe in my master’s thesis as crafted, networked, informational artifacts. Through this pursuit I have recently developed and implemented Physical DOM, a concept that uses physical sensors to control style elements of a web page in real time using AJAX. Building upon this concept Gravitable is an interactive piece of kinetic furniture that represents networked information in physical material and sends information about its surface content’s weight and position to the Internet through an embedded web server.
Thank you very much for your interest in my work. Please feel free to contact me using the form below and we can get in contact over the phone.
Sincerely,
Mark Roland
